Q&A's

Have any questions about epoxy flooring? Would you like to make sure this is right for you? The following are questions our customers often ask
  • What is epoxy flooring?

Once the concrete floor has been ground, smoothed, and properly prepped, the epoxy resin is then mixed with the hardening chemical. This is then professionally applied to the concrete surface. Once spread and left to cure, a chemical reaction occurs and turns the compound into an ultra-durable hard-plastic floor which bonds extremely well to its substrate and is resistant to degradation.

Depending on the type of finish desired, multiple coats and various special techniques are applied. For residential applications where a more attractive look is favoured, metallic and flake systems are applied whereas in commercial applications where durability and traction are preferred, then further materials are incorporated with the application such as sand and aluminium oxide.

The result is a floor that is strong, durable, easy to maintain, and looks fantastic.

  • How long should an epoxy floor last?

When professionally installed and maintained correctly, an epoxy flooring system can last more than 15-20 years. The technology of epoxy has improved greatly over the last decade which has extended its lifespan.

However, life expectancies of epoxy flooring systems can vary depending on where it is being installed and for what purpose. For example, a garage epoxy floor, would require less maintenance and last longer than an industrial epoxy floor that manages chemicals and heavy equipment and machinery daily.

  • Where can an epoxy floor be installed?

The many benefits that epoxy floors provide make them very versatile; thus, they can be used in a wide range of locations. Their multifaceted qualities have made them one of the hottest trends in interior design. Technically, an epoxy floor will adhere to any prepared concrete substrate, however it is widely installed indoors in areas such but not limited to:

  • Is Epoxy Flooring expensive?

The nature of epoxy flooring, its reputation of being a strong and durable product and the substantial preparation that is required to achieve a long-lasting result does make it a premium product. Although there are many various systems available to meet different budgets, epoxy flooring is not considered a cheap alternative, so be very wary of cheap quotes. • Can epoxy flooring be installed outside?

Although primarily installed indoors, it can be installed outdoors as UV stable products do exist. As a rule, when exposed to the sun, most epoxy products can have discolouration over time. It is primarily a cosmetic issue and has no effect on floor's performance. If you are not concerned about this mild discolouration, epoxy flooring is a fantastic product for hard-wearing outdoor areas like Truck Bays and Loading Docks.

  • My garage floor has a moisture problem, can I still have an epoxy flooring installed?

We do not recommend installing epoxy flooring if your garage or area has consistent moisture or recurrence of moisture which is known as a hydrostatic pressure. In some circumstances we can apply water proofing products beforehand so please contact us to find out more.

  • How do I clean my new epoxy flooring?

You may use a broom, dust mop or even a leaf blower to give your new floors a light clean. You may use pressured water without getting too close as it may damage the floor. You can also mop your floors but its best to avoid any soap mixtures because these will leave your floors extremely slippery.
